If you don’t have road tax, an MOT or insurance the penalties are fairly straightforward - but what if it is a work's vehicle and you believed it was taxed or insured and it's not your fault that it wasn't? What if your insurance was cancelled due to a direct debit payment not going through and you didn't realise? There are various situations in which a case that may seem black and white is not so clear and there could be room for a court to consider not penalising you for driving a vehicle that was not properly insured, taxed or MOT'd.
